Touch Screen with On-Cell Technology

Apple is preparing to launch its first OLED MacBook Pro with a touch screen, expected to enter production in 2026. According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new display will use on-cell touch technology. This integrates touch sensors directly into the panel’s top layer, reducing thickness and improving responsiveness.

Kuo notes that the decision follows Apple’s long-term observation of iPad usage. Touch controls are believed to increase productivity in select scenarios, enhancing the user experience. Samsung is expected to supply the OLED displays for this model.

Affordable MacBook Model Plans

Alongside the OLED MacBook Pro, Apple is also planning a more affordable MacBook powered by an iPhone processor. Production is expected to begin in late 2025. This version will not include touch screen support. However, Apple is reportedly considering a second-generation model in 2027 that could integrate touch features.

Launch Timeline and Chips

Reports initially pointed to MacBook Pro models with M5 chips launching in late 2025. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman later suggested a delay until early 2026. This revised schedule now aligns with Kuo’s timeline for the OLED and touch screen upgrades.

Apple’s shift to OLED technology, combined with touch support, represents a significant redesign for the MacBook Pro. It also shows Apple’s willingness to adapt lessons from the iPad line into its laptop range.
