Samsung has used the same primary camera sensor for three generations of its Galaxy S Ultra flagships. However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will break this streak in early 2026 with an upgraded primary camera that improves low-light photography. The major upgrade is a wider aperture.

What’s New in the Galaxy S26 Camera?

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s primary camera will feature a wider F/1.4 aperture, compared to the F/1.7 aperture of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This change will allow the camera to gather more light, resulting in better image quality in low-light conditions. This upgrade is a welcome improvement for anyone who loves capturing photos in challenging lighting.

The S26 Ultra will also include variable aperture technology, which adjusts the aperture size based on the lighting. This feature will enhance flexibility when shooting in bright or dim environments, producing better results in both.

200MP Sensor and Low Light Performance

The Galaxy S26 Ultra will likely keep the 200MP resolution of its predecessor. However, the F/1.4 aperture will significantly improve low-light performance. The wider aperture allows more light to reach the sensor, enhancing the clarity and detail in low-light shots.

If the sensor size and pixel size remain similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra (1/1.3 inches and 0.6µm), the F/1.4 aperture will make a big difference. More light means brighter, sharper images with less noise—ideal for low-light conditions.

Other Key Features of the Galaxy S26 Camera

Along with the aperture upgrade, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to include other features to improve image quality. These could include better noise reduction, improved dynamic range, and more accurate color reproduction. The variable aperture technology will give users more control over their photos in varying lighting conditions.

Although many details remain unclear, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera upgrade promises to make it a top contender for mobile photography, especially for low-light enthusiasts.
