Dreame has surprised the tech industry by entering the smartphone market with two unusual product lines. The company recently showcased Dreame luxury phones costing up to $15,000 while also teasing another smartphone series featuring a detachable camera module with a large one-inch sensor.
The announcement marks a bold expansion for Dreame, a company previously known for smart home devices and robotics. In addition to smartphones, the firm has also hinted at ambitions in wearables, action cameras, and even electric vehicles.
Dreame luxury phones focus on premium materials
One of the standout launches is the Dreame Aurora luxury smartphone series. These devices are designed with high-end craftsmanship and rare materials.
According to the company, the luxury phones will incorporate gold inlays, precious stones, and handcrafted elements. Some designs even feature mechanical details, including a decorative clock placed on the back of the phone.
The premium construction places Dreame luxury phones in the same category as ultra-exclusive brands like Vertu. Prices for the devices are expected to range between CNY 70,000 and CNY 100,000, which equals roughly $10,000 to $15,000 depending on materials and customization.
Each phone is expected to feature unique designs created using traditional crafting techniques.
Dreame smartphone introduces detachable camera system
Alongside the luxury models, Dreame is also developing a more experimental smartphone line focused on photography.
These devices will feature a detachable camera module containing a large one-inch image sensor. Unlike earlier attempts by smartphone makers, Dreame’s camera module will operate wirelessly through a Wi-Fi connection.
This design allows the camera unit to function separately from the phone. Users could place the module in different positions while controlling it remotely from the smartphone.
The concept is similar to Sony’s earlier lens-style cameras but introduces more flexibility thanks to wireless functionality.
New camera system could expand mobile photography
The detachable camera module could allow new types of photography and video recording. For example, users might capture different camera angles while holding the phone in another position.
This approach could also make it easier to shoot both A-roll and B-roll footage without using multiple cameras.
The one-inch sensor included in the module is significantly larger than most smartphone camera sensors. Larger sensors generally capture more light and produce better image quality.
If Dreame’s concept reaches the market, it could offer a unique solution for mobile photographers and content creators.
Dreame develops its own AI processor
Another notable detail from the announcement is Dreame’s new in-house artificial intelligence chip.
The processor, called the Chixiao 01, reportedly delivers up to 200 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of computing power.
That figure is significantly higher than some existing AI chips used in consumer devices. For comparison, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform delivers about 80 TOPS.
The Chixiao 01 chip is expected to power both Dreame luxury phones and the detachable camera smartphone series.
Dreame expands beyond home technology
Dreame’s move into smartphones highlights the company’s growing ambitions beyond its traditional markets.
The company built its reputation with robotic vacuum cleaners and smart home devices. However, it now appears to be exploring a much broader technology ecosystem.
By launching both experimental camera phones and high-end luxury devices, Dreame is attempting to differentiate itself in a crowded smartphone market.
Whether these concepts become commercial products remains to be seen. However, the company’s unusual approach has already captured attention across the global tech industry.
