Samsung and Arlo Expand SmartThings Integration for Enhanced Security
Samsung has announced an expansion of its partnership with security camera maker Arlo, bringing even more advanced security capabilities to its SmartThings platform. The integration aims to enhance the user experience for SmartThings users by adding Arlo’s security camera features directly within the app. This move comes shortly after Samsung’s integration of Matter 1.5, which improves compatibility with various smart security devices, including video doorbell cameras.
Currently, the SmartThings app already offers a range of security features powered by Arlo’s AI object detection system, such as package, people, and pet identification. The collaboration between the two companies seeks to bring even more powerful security features through Arlo’s Smart Security SaaS platform. This will allow users to react faster and control more aspects of their security systems, ensuring greater peace of mind.

New Features on the Horizon
Although specific features were not disclosed, the aim is clear: Samsung and Arlo are working to allow users to do more with Arlo’s cameras directly within the SmartThings app. This expansion of capabilities will first roll out in the U.S. and later spread to other markets. The companies hope this will provide users with faster and more efficient control over their security systems.
Mark Benson, Head of SmartThings, commented on the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with Arlo reflects SmartThings’ ongoing focus on working with leading innovators to evolve the connected home experience. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for new smart security services that will further enhance how users protect and manage their homes through SmartThings.”
Building on Previous SmartThings Partnerships
Samsung has been expanding its ecosystem of Matter-compatible devices through partnerships with brands like Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam. By integrating their cameras into the SmartThings platform, Samsung continues to enhance the versatility and compatibility of its smart home offerings. Most recent Samsung smart TVs, soundbars, and Family Hub refrigerators come with SmartThings Hubs built in. These devices also serve as Matter Hubs, allowing users to control and set up Matter-compatible smart home devices without the need for additional hubs.
Looking to the Future of Smart Home Security
The expanded Samsung-Arlo partnership signals a growing trend of integrated smart home security solutions. By improving features and creating seamless connections between Arlo’s cameras and SmartThings, Samsung aims to provide users with a more cohesive, user-friendly experience for managing home security. As the connected home ecosystem continues to evolve, this collaboration is likely to pave the way for further advancements in smart security and home automation.
